Meet the Kia EV9 Electric SUV
Released on 01/23/2024
This is Kia's new flagship car.
And it's electric, of course, it's the EV9.
It is massive, it's the SUV Supreme.
Five meters in length, so it's a big, big beast.
Although, doesn't drive that way, it doesn't feel like it.
It's also fast, this is the GT version
so it goes from nought to 60 in about 4.5 seconds.
So it's very quick, and it handles well too.
I mean, yes, you can feel the weight
as you drive around in it,
but it's a really comfortable ride and it's quiet in there.
It's quieter, or as quiet, as a Range Rover apparently.
So what we have inside is
nice screens, a three screen dash,
three separate screen dash, and their new UI,
which is much better than the previous version.
Also crucially, finally,
wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Gosh, finally that's taken them, KIA, so long to do that
and it's a much welcome improvement.
Loads of space, loads of cubby holes here as well.
But the real thing about the space,
of course, is being three rows in here,
is that it's actually got three proper rows.
It's enough for adults in the back, not just kids.
So here we've got the two captain seats in this version here
rather than a bench.
Press of a button, that comes forward.
So I should have no problem getting in and out of this car,
so they say, and not really, no.
In you get, lots of room in here, get behind the wheel.
Now, yeah, it's a little snug, but it's much better
than most other seven seaters, I have to say.
And adults can easily sit in this back row here,
it's not just for kids.
Every seat has a USB-C socket
and cup holders aplenty, of course.
And this also has panoramic glass roof as well,
two of those actually, one at the front
and then one for the cabin here at the back.
But then let's go round to the boot
and I'll show you the rest of it, what it can do.
So even with the third row of seats up and not down,
obviously if you want to have more room,
you've still got a reasonable sized boot here too.
Amazingly so, and power points too,
and this, like other Kias, has vehicle to load.
So you can plug in household appliances,
and microwaves, dishwashers,
you can use that off here as well.
It also has vehicle to home and vehicle to grid.
So you can power your home with this for a couple of days.
And also it will, if you've got the right wall box
there'll be intelligent charges
where it will draw power from the box when it's cheap,
and then you can give it back to the home
when it's expensive, supposedly.
And that's about it really.
I mean, obviously, it's fast, it's quiet,
it handles really nicely.
And I suppose the headline figure
is that this is a new price point for Kia.
It's something like $55,000 or just shy of $55,000.
And so they're going after a different market with this EV9.
They're going after a more affluent customer.
They are actively saying in the briefings,
mentioning brands like BMW, Audi, Range Rover,
these guys are coming for that sort of market,
but offering a very similar sort of vehicle
at a much cheaper price point,
even though this is high for a Kia,
they're going into that market.
So if they're successful,
this could do very, very well for them.
And then after this, soon we're gonna have
the Hyundai IONIQ 7
built on the same underpinnings as this vehicle.
And then you really will see a competition between the two.
